Do you struggle with the Perfectionist Mindset? Would you rather get 50% of the stuff done or get 0% of it done? Done is better than perfect. Listen to today’s episode to learn how to allow yourself the imperfections.
On today’s episode, I want to challenge you to get things done rather than it being perfect. So many of us are on a mission to be more effective and successful at the things we choose to get involved with this year. You may have created a list of goals at the end of the last year and the past few weeks, however, if you have been stuck in a perfectionist mindset, you may find that nothing has been completed or accomplished yet.
That’s the topic we are going to focus on today. Done is better than perfect. And you know what? I love, having that incredible skill to get things done paying attention to details, but sometimes it could hinder you. You find yourself wanting everything to be mapped out. I’m finally in a mode and I know you guys can get there as well.
Would you rather get 50% of the stuff done or get 0% of it done? Your need for perfection may be keeping you stuck. It kept me stuck in my business. It kept me stuck in my career. It kept me stuck in my relationship. I know some of us have goals and dreams and nothing seems to be coming to fruition. You might want to check that perfectionist mindset of yours. I can recall a time I wanted to try out a new bean recipe, because my family and I love beans. I found a recipe online that looked awesome from the photo and the reviews. Those online images can have you believing, you can prepare a meal like a world class chef, right? The pictures look awesome. They make you want to cook so I printed it out. It was only three simple steps, you guys I made it to step three and that’s when the table turned. I screwed it up.
I put way too many tomatoes in the beans, more than what was called for, so it almost looked like tomato soup rather than a nice bean recipe. It didn’t look perfect but it was still tasty, the kids enjoyed it My husband was giving me the side eye. But, you know what. I set out to try something new. It didn’t come out perfect the first time, however I got it done and we were all able to eat. I know you can find something throughout the course of your day to tackle, or perhaps you want to go back and review some activities that are still sitting on your to do list.
Don’t confuse being busy with getting things accomplished. Here are 3 tips for making sure you’re actually getting the work done.
1. Close social media.
Close Facebook, Youtube, TikTok and anything else that distracts you. If you want to get work done, you’ll need to cut off the avenues you use to procrastinate.
2. Use a timer.
When working through your tasks, estimate how long they will take and then try to beat the clock. It can make even dull tasks into a fun game, and you’ll surprise yourself with how fast you can be.
3. Change your environment.
When working through your tasks, estimate how long they will take and then try to beat the clock. It can make even dull tasks into a fun game, and you’ll surprise yourself with how fast you can be.
Doing the same things, in the same place, day after day can cause burnout. Try a change of pace and do your work in a different location.
Allow yourself the imperfection. I want you to do something new today. Whether you fail or not or you do it in a mediocre way. Find one thing that you can try new today and I’d like to know what you have decided to get done on today.
