EP 6: Fall Back In Love With Your Business Again

Have you started to fall out of love with your business, or are you starting to find your work to be a battle rather than a blessing, I want to share five tips to help you fall back in love with your business.

It’s February at the time of this recording and Love is in the air. Romance in a business that’s not making money and has lost its thrill to serve others, will not last very long. On today’s episode I want to share with you guys five ways to bring the love and sizzle back in your business. Whether you’re new to entrepreneurship if you’ve been in business a long time you may have hit a rut where you’re just not feeling it.  The first thing that I want you to do, whenever you start to feel the sizzle in your relationship with your business starting to die out.

1. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

It is easy and tempting to look at your peers and others in your industry and line of work and start to beat yourself up over how much better they are than you are. Resist doing this at all cost!

When you compare yourself to others, you are rarely comparing like-with-like. Most of the time you are unaware of the other person’s journey: where they have come from, what challenges they have overcome, how long it’s taken them to reach where they are and what their actual results are.

Instead, use their success (or perceived success) to inspire your own. Take their achievements as a sign that it can be done, but then refocus on your own business, your own clients and how you want to bring your unique brand of value into the marketplace.

2. Start Surrounding Yourself With Supportive Minds

Start surrounding yourself with other entrepreneurs that are doing things and making things happen. Those individuals that are not stagnant. Surround yourself with those individuals that are not going to be there to help you wallow in your pity. Especially when you are in a slump with not getting clients or whether you just not feeling it, you start to think about maybe I should fail and do something different. Surround yourself with some individuals that’s going to help support you. They’re going to be able to lift you up especially when you feel like throwing in the towel. I call this your Success Circle, 2-5 people who understand you and have your back. Engaging with a circle of individuals can help your company to develop and reveal opportunities that might be just on your doorstep.

3. Begin Taking Profit Centered Action Daily In Your Business

My Number three tip for you guys is to begin taking some profit centered action daily in in your business. What do I mean by that? I’m not talking about just going on social media and scheduling a post. I’m talking about getting involved with a chamber commerce, making follow up calls or sending out a newsletter. It has to be sales driven, not just the mundane. Remember romance with a business that’s not making any money is going to easily die. You may not see instant profits the first time around from your actions. However, when we do something repetitively and consistently, we start to see the works or the benefit of our works. Don’t think about trying to go to the other side, what they said the grass is not always greener. If you take the same bad behaviors over to a new business just like in a relationship when you bring your old baggage to a new relationship, what happens? That relationship generally dies or you bring a lot of stress and frustration to that relationship. The same thing happens in business.  You’ve got to take actions to keep the sizzle and fire going just like you would in any other relationship.

4. Cut The Fat

Another tip to help you keep the romance in your business is to cut the fat. The stuff that’s just fluffiness, things that does not have any importance. It doesn’t rock your goals, is not going to take you take to the next level, whatever that may look like. Is it spending four or five hours on social media and you’re not connecting with a source that may lead to a potential client or customer. Cut the fat if you find that you’re spending too much time in one area and not enough in another,  that is considered excess weight in your business. You guys ever experience that in a relationship? When you start picking up a few pounds. The other person start looking at you and dropping hints. It’s the same reaction in business. Additional weight added to your body leaves you fatigued, with low energy, groggy and lazy. You can experience the same adverse effects in your business. Loss of creativity, lack of energy to start a new project, too lazy to make follow up calls and book new appointments. Reassess and figure out are you spending too much time and energy in one area that is not producing results.

5. Get A Facelift

No you won’t need to go to a plastic surgeon. I’m talking about giving your business a facelift, better known as an update. When’s the last time you updated your website or had professional photos taken? Is the general public still looking at images and profile pictures from five years ago. I don’t know about you, but I don’t look the same from five years ago and my goals for my business has shifted a few times since then as well. Does your office space need an update. A fresh coat of paint, artwork and accessories can do wonders for your creative juices and reduce some stress in your environment. Small changes can produce big results.
